Police received three PCR calls in the afternoon about a traffic jam near metro pillar number 67 on the Dhaula Kuan–Delhi Cantt stretch. Responding teams found a BMW X5 overturned and a motorcycle by the road divider.
Eyewitnesses said a woman was driving the BMW when it struck the motorcycle from behind. Singh was riding the bike with his wife as a pillion passenger. They were taken to a hospital in a taxi by the BMW driver and her husband. The front of the BMW was badly damaged in the collision.
Singh later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, while his 50-year-old wife is under treatment. The BMW driver and her husband, a businessman from Gurugram, were also injured and hospitalised. Their statements are yet to be recorded.
“The BMW and motorcycle involved have been seized. The site was examined by a crime team, with experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory called in. An FIR has been registered and investigation is ongoing,” a senior police officer told a news agency. Traffic was briefly disrupted but restored once the vehicles were cleared.
Singh’s son said his parents were returning from Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and had stopped at Karnataka Bhawan for a meal. “They were on their way to Hari Nagar via Dhaula Kuan when the accident occurred. Instead of being taken to the nearest hospital, they were taken nearly 22 km away. My mother suffered a head injury despite wearing a helmet, and a fractured femur,” he added.
